An Afternoon of Broadway in the Indian Canyons Neighborhood
Musical Theatre University students and Lucie Arnaz Awards winners will perform popular songs from Broadway musicals in a stunning midcentury designed home during Modernism Week.
$125, Students 18 and younger $40 (2.5 hrs)
The LA Phil Affiliates in the Desert and David Green’s Musical Theatre University will present Lucie Arnaz Awards winners and others to perform popular songs from Broadway musicals. The program will include selections such as from Dear Evan Hansen, Stephen Sondheim’s musicals, and the Great American Song Book. This event will honor Stage, Film and Television Veteran Lucie Arnaz for her incredible support of arts education in our schools.
The setting for our concert is a stunning Indian Canyons private residence once owned by Sinatra pal, jazz-pop singer Keely Smith. It was designed by architect Harold L. (Hal) Lacy, built by Paul Butler in 1969, and updated by interior designer Christopher Kennedy. With its rare two-level design and a front-loaded pool, this 4,422 square foot home home has the feel of a private resort compound. The home truly blurs the lines between inside and outside living with stunning views of the Indian Canyons Golf Resort North Course, the iconic Disney Fountain and the surrounding mountains. The home is also a model of sustainability with extensive solar panels, desert landscaping, LED lighting, ceiling fans and a fruit, vegetable, and herb garden.
Indoor and terrace seating will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. The concert will be followed by a reception with hosted wine, champagne, soft drinks, and hors d’oeuvres by Lynn Hammond Catering, and will include a meet and greet with the artists. The reception will end about 5:30 pm to transition to your evening plans.
Proceeds will support the Lucie Arnaz Awards Program, the LA Phil and the LA Phil Affiliates in the Desert mission to promote youth music education programs.
